CLAT (Common Law Admission Test):

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance examination conducted for admissions to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) in India. The exam is organized annually by the Consortium of National Law Universities. It is a highly competitive test and serves as the gateway to prestigious law schools in India.

Eligibility:

  • Undergraduate Program (UG):

    • The candidate must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination with the required percentage:

Age Limit:

There is no upper age limit for candidates appearing for CLAT, for both UG and PG programs.

Number of Attempts:

There is no restriction on the number of attempts for CLAT.

    • Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • PG CLAT:

    • Duration: 2 hours
    • Total Marks: 120
    • Question Type: Objective + Subjective (MCQs + Essay Writing)
    • Subjects Covered:
      • Constitutional Law
      • Jurisprudence
      • Other law subjects such as Contract Law, Criminal Law, International Law, etc.

Reservation Policy:

Seats are reserved for categories such as SC, ST, OBC, PwD, and EWS as per the specific policies of the participating NLUs. Some NLUs also offer reservations for domicile-based candidates.

Key Features:

  • No Age Restriction: Candidates can apply for CLAT irrespective of age.
  • Reservation Benefits: Categories like SC/ST/OBC and PwD have access to reserved seats in most NLUs.

Minimum Marks Required:

  • 45% – General/OBC/PwD/NRI/PIO/OCI
  • 40% – SC/ST
